the Balance
Never give up. Keep moving forward. Find the option no one else believes is there.
A life that rarely followed the expected path.
The book explores the much less linear story behind Dr. Gidman's professional achievements.
It moves through competitive athletics, questions of identity and belonging, leaving college, life as an over-the-road truck driver, entrepreneurship, a catastrophic automobile accident and severe brain injury, cognitive recovery, education, leadership, loss, and the work of defining your own path.
Coming soon. The site is structured to transition from a book journey page to a full sales and reader-resource page after publication.
Not perfect equilibrium. The ability to navigate contradiction.
Finding balance is an ongoing process—learning to move between what circumstances say is possible and what you still have the ability to become.
Strength & Vulnerability
Holding determination and vulnerability at the same time without treating either as weakness.
Success & Struggle
Understanding that achievement and hardship can exist in the same story—and often do.
Logic & Emotion
Making room for data, instinct, identity, grief, confidence, and the realities of human decision-making.
Leadership & Dependence
Learning when to lead, when to ask for help, and how to create strength through shared responsibility.
Knowing & Doing
Closing the gap between understanding an answer and being able to turn it into meaningful change.
Expectation & Choice
Separating who others expect you to be from the person you decide to become.
Never give up. Keep moving forward.
Find the option that no one else believes is there.
After a catastrophic automobile accident and severe brain injury, Dr. Gidman had to rebuild fundamental cognitive abilities. When she was eventually told she had reached the limit of her recovery, she chose not to treat that prognosis as a conclusion.
She rebuilt, returned to school, completed graduate education, and ultimately earned a Ph.D.—turning what once seemed nearly impossible into another chapter rather than the ending of her story.
